VW Golf Mk4 GTI Headlining & Pillar Retrim

This project shows a VW Golf Mk4 GTI that was retrimmed using black stretch suede.

Mk4 Golfs often suffer from sagging headliners and worn pillar trims. This retrim made a big difference to the look and feel of the cabin while keeping the original GTI style.

What Was Done

  • Vehicle: VW Golf Mk4 GTI
  • Areas retrimmed:
    • Headlining
    • Pillars
    • Sunroof cover
  • Material used: Black stretch suede

How Much Material Was Used

Gaz first ordered:

  • 3 metres of black stretch suede
  • 2 cans of Trim-Fix adhesive

This was enough to complete the headlining and front pillars.

After seeing the result, he returned for:

  • Another 1.5 metres of suede
  • 1 more can of Trim-Fix

This allowed him to finish the rear pillars and the sunroof cover.

Giving the whole interior a matching finish.

This is quite common on Mk4 Golfs and shows why ordering a little extra material is often helpful.

About the Installation

  • Stretch suede made it easier to work around curves
  • Completing the job in stages helped keep everything neat
  • Using the same material throughout ensured the colour matching

Taking time and not rushing made a big difference to the final result.

A Well Looked After GTI

Gaz takes great care of his GTI and shares updates on Instagram. The interior retrim was one of the most noticeable upgrades inside the car. It helped bring the cabin back up to the same standard as the rest of the build.
