VW T6 Transporter Interior Re-Trim

Re-trimming the interior of a VW T6 Transporter is one of the most popular upgrades for vans and camper conversions. In this customer project, Adam transformed his T6 using our black stretch auto suede, creating a clean, modern finish across multiple interior panels.

Below you’ll find photos of the finished result, details on how much material was used, and helpful notes if you’re planning a similar project.

Project Overview

Vehicle: VW Transporter T6
Areas Covered:

  • Headlining
  • Door cards
  • Pillars
  • Lower dashboard

Material Used: Black stretch auto suede
Total Quantity Used: Approximately 6 metres

This setup is typical for customers looking to fully refresh the front and upper interior of a Transporter while keeping a factory-style look.

Why Black Stretch Auto Suede Works So Well in a VW T6

Black suede is one of the most popular choices for Transporter interiors, and for good reason:

  • Creates a premium, OEM-plus finish
  • Works well with both light and dark trims
  • Hides marks better than lighter colours
  • Complements camper and commercial layouts

The stretch content makes it easier to work around curves and contours, which is especially helpful on headlining’s and pillars.

How Much Suede Do You Need for a VW T6?

For this project, 6 metres of auto suede covered:

  • Front headlining
  • Door cards
  • A-, B- and C-pillars
  • Lower dash sections

We generally recommend allowing a little extra material for trimming, curves, and mistakes — especially if it’s your first time working with suede.

Installation Notes (Helpful Tips)

If you’re planning a similar VW T6 project:

  • Dry-fit headlining/panels before applying adhesive
  • You can start from one end and work your way along. Or start from the centre and work outwards.
  • Apply adhesive to the headlining/panel in sections. Not all in one go.
  • Use a high-temperature spray adhesive suitable for automotive interiors. We recommend Trim-Fix.
  • Stretch suede gently — don’t over-tension around corners
  • Cut excess material only once the adhesive has fully grabbed

Start with smaller panels and work up to the headlining.

Take your time.

Customer Feedback

Adam was kind enough to leave the following feedback after completing his re-trim:

“Great suede for re trimming headliners etc.”

“Absolutely perfect. I will be ordering more soon too. Thanks for a great product.”

We love seeing finished Transporter projects like this — and hearing that customers are confident enough to come back for more material.
