VW Golf Mk5 GT Headlining Retrim

This project shows a VW Golf Mk5 GT headlining retrim. Black stretch suede replaced the original tired factory fabric.

Mk5 Golfs are well known for headlining sag over time. This retrim made a noticeable difference to the look and feel of the cabin.

What Was Done

  • Vehicle: VW Golf Mk5 GT
  • Area retrimmed: Headlining
  • Material used: Black stretch auto suede

How Much Material Was Used

  • Suede: 2.5 metres
  • Adhesive: 2 cans of Trim-Fix

This was enough to cover the headlining panel comfortably. While allowing room for trimming and handling.

About the Installation

For this Mk5 GT:

  • Stretch suede helped when working around the roof contours
  • Applying adhesive evenly and working in sections helped achieve a clean finish
  • Taking time during fitting made a big difference to the final result

As with most Mk5 headlining retrims, preparation and patience were key.

Customer Feedback

After completing the retrim, Richard shared the following feedback:

“Just finished the installation, thank you. Looks pretty good. It has transformed the interior.”

This is a great example of how a headlining retrim can have a big impact. More than many other interior upgrades.
