VW Golf Mk5 Edition 30 Headlining Retrim
This customer project features a VW Golf Mk5 Edition 30.
The Mk5 Golf is well known for headlining sag over time.
The original headlining was retrimmed using black stretch suede. This gives the interior a cleaner, more modern finish.
Project Details
- Vehicle: VW Golf Mk5 Edition 30
- Area retrimmed: Headlining
- Material used: Black stretch suede
- Quantity used: Approximately 2.5 metres
- Adhesive: Trim-Fix (approx. 2 cans)
Stretch suede helps manage curves around the roof panel and edges. Giving a nice even finish.
Notes on Adhesive Application
This headlining was completed successfully on a second fitting attempt.
After the initial application used too much adhesive. This caused some seepage through the material.
Fred shared the following feedback from his experience:
“Second time lucky. Hard to get the perfect amount of glue on without it bleeding through.”
This is a common learning point when working with suede for the first time.
Highlights the importance of:
- Applying adhesive in light, even coats
- Keeping the spray can 20-30 cm away from the material
- Allowing the adhesive to become tacky before bonding
- Working in manageable sections rather than spraying the entire panel at once
As you can see the second attempt resulted in a clean, smooth finish.
