Land Rover Defender 90 Headlining Retrim

This customer project features a Land Rover Defender 90.

The headlining was retrimmed using black stretch suede. Creating a clean and durable finish that refreshed the cabin.

Older Defenders are well known for tired and deteriorated headlining’s.

Project Details

  • Vehicle: Land Rover Defender 90
  • Area retrimmed: Headlining
  • Material used: Black stretch auto suede
  • Quantity used: Approximately 7 metres

Stretch suede was used to help manage curves and contours making it easier to achieve an even finish.

Customer Feedback

Charlie completed the work himself.

He shared the following feedback after finishing the retrim:

“I’m really happy with it. That material was super easy to work with and although it took some time, it was well spent. I bought the car back in May last year and it was bog standard. I’ve done all the work to it. From replacing rusted door sills to Apple CarPlay to headliners.

I must say the headliner has had the biggest impact thus far. Super happy with the quality and the finish — the old one was absolutely revolting.”

This project is a good example of how a headlining retrim can have a greater visual impact. Often more than many larger mechanical or cosmetic upgrades.

Notes on the Installation

For this Defender 90:

  • Allowing enough material helped manage trimming and fitting comfortably
  • Time spent on preparation and fitting contributed to the final finish
  • Stretch suede made working across the roof panel more forgiving

As with most Defender interiors, patience during preparation and fitting was key.
