From Old Headlining to Finished Install

Rex recently sent us a series of photos showing his headlining retrim from start to finish.

What makes this project useful is that it shows each stage of the job.

From removing the old foam right through to the finished headlining back in the vehicle.

Material Used

Stage 1 – Removing the Old Foam

The first photo shows the headlining board removed from the vehicle. The the old foam being scraped away.

This is one of the most important parts of any headlining retrim. Taking the time to remove the old foam properly helps create a clean surface for the new material.

Stage 2 – Preparing the Board

The second photo shows the board cleaned up and ready for the new suede.

A clean board gives the adhesive the best chance of bonding. Helps achieve a smooth finish.

Stage 3 – Dry Fitting the Suede

Before applying adhesive, Rex laid the silver stretch suede over the board. He could check positioning and make sure there was enough material to overlap edges.

This simple step enables you to plan the fit before committing with adhesive.

Stage 4 – Finished Headlining

The fourth photo shows the completed headlining.

The silver stretch suede sits neatly across the board and gives it a fresh, clean appearance.

Stage 5 – Back in the Vehicle

The final photo shows the headlining refitted back into the car.

Seeing the finished result back in place is always the rewarding part of the job. Rex has done a really tidy install.

Customer Feedback

Rex said:

"It's back in the car and looks great. Thanks"

Summary

A successful headlining retrim is about following the process:

  • Remove the old foam properly
  • Clean the board thoroughly
  • Dry fit before applying adhesive
  • Fit & glue in sections
  • Refit and enjoy the result

A neat job from Rex and a great example of the headlining journey from start to finish.
