Porsche 987 Headlining Re-Trimmed

There’s nothing like giving a classic Porsche interior a fresh, modern feel. Mark recently re-trimmed the headlining of his Porsche 987. He used our stretch suede — and the transformation is stunning.

Why the Upgrade?

Over time, OEM headliners can sag, damage, fade or feel outdated. By switching to stretch suede, this Porsche owner restored his roof lining. It gave the cabin a luxurious, soft-touch finish that feels as good as it looks.

Tools Used

He kindly shared photos of his toolkit to show how achievable this job is at home. The essentials included:

  • Trim-Fix spray adhesive – for a strong, even bond
  • Plastic trim removal tools – to safely release the headliner board
  • Sharp scissors & craft knife – for cutting suede neatly around edges and openings
  • Hard brush – to remove old foam
  • Soft brush (or clean hands) – to smooth the fabric and prevent air bubbles

The Process

  1. Removing the Headliner Board - The board was carefully lowered from the roof using plastic tools, ensuring clips and fittings weren’t damaged.
  2. Preparing the Surface - Any old foam and adhesive were removed to create a clean, smooth surface.
  3. Applying the Suede - Using Trim-Fix adhesive, the suede was applied gradually, starting from the centre and working outward. This method helps avoid creases and ensures a uniform finish.
  4. Finishing Touches - Openings for lights and trim were cut with precision, then the fabric was tucked neatly into recesses.

The Result

The finished headliner looks factory-fresh but with a premium twist. The stretch suede follows the contours. It gives this Porsche 987 a refined and modern interior upgrade.
